About us
HSE Library was founded in 1993.
Today it has an extensive structure: eight departments operate in different university buildings, and the newest one was opened in September, 2019, at Pokrovsky Boulevard.
The Library’s collection is vast, comprising about 600,000 printed sources and one of the best electronic resources subscriptions among Russian universities — 50 platforms accessible both on‑site and remotely.
The Library’s mission is to support the University’s educational and research activities by providing access to reputable printed and electronic resources and services, and by creating suitable conditions for working in the modern information environment. This involves combining several developmental vectors: spaces, resources, services, and staff.
The Library’s main objective at present is to cultivate a culture of information search among users. To this end, individual and group workshops are conducted on the most efficient usage of the Library’s information resources, along with advice on search strategies and information analysis, including the use of neural networks and specialized databases.
The Library has over 47,000 registered users, with approximately 2,500 people visiting its branches daily. Users are offered a wide range of online services: registration and remote access, digital delivery service, remote replacement of lost books, and ordering books from domestic and foreign publishers for the Library.
We aim to fully meet the needs of our patrons, strive to create equally comfortable conditions across all locations to support their work, and share our positive experiences by organizing educational programmes, digital internships, and workshops for the library community in Russia.
